z višjo stopnjo finančne pismenosti bolje upravljajo s svojim denarjem in na
ta način svoj položaj še izboljšujejo (Smyczek in Matysiewicz, 2015).
V prispevku preverjamo, kateri dejavniki vplivajo na finančno pismenost
15-letnikov, ki so bili vključeni v mednarodno raziskavo PISA. V podrob-
verjamo, kateri dejavniki (spol, ekonomski in socialni status, posedovanje

Financial literacy factors among Slovenian 15-year-olds

nancial well-being (Atkinson and Messy, 2012). Unfortunately, research
shows that financial literacy is low, which in turn means that individuals
with low levels of financial literacy do not understand the financial ser-
vices available to them, and often make wrong decisions, which wors-
en their financial situation. And, of course, vice versa, individuals with
higher levels of financial literacy are better at managing their money and
improving their economic situation (Smyczek and Matysiewicz, 2015).
In this paper the factors influencing the level of financial literacy of fifteen
year-olds are explored. In addition to Slovenian data also Flemish (with
the highest financial literacy achievement) and Italian (with the lowest fi-
nancial literacy achievement) data are presented for a detailed comparison.
Furthermore, by using regression analysis, the article presents the factors
(gender, economic and social status, holding a bank account or pre-paid
debit card, learning money management, etc.) which predict the level of
