terorističnih napadov ter njihova vse višja frekvenca odpirata prostor t. i.
»moralni paniki«, ki spodbuja polarizacijo družbe ter s tem povezano
konfliktno različnost. Na širšem vsebinskem področju vzgoje in izobra­
ževanja je problematika radikalizacije in nasilnega ekstremizma v ospred­
je znova postavila zagotavljanje skupnih načel in temeljnih vrednot ter na
novo zastavila vprašanje sprejemanja in spoštovanja različnosti ter s tem po­
vezano problematiko strpnosti. Pričujoči prispevek prinaša analizo posa­
meznih razsežnosti problematike radikalizacije in nasilnega ekstremizma.
Uvodni del identificira osnovne probleme in izzive, ki jih odpirata proble­
matika radikalizacije in nasilnega ekstremizma. Osrednji del podrobne­
je predstavi najpomembnejše teme, ki jih odpira razpetost med zagotavlja­
njem varnosti in stabilnosti ter spoštovanjem temeljnih pravic in svoboščin
posameznikov. Sklepni del opozori na premestitev poudarka v razumeva­
nju procesa radikalizacije ter na nekatere izmed zapostavljenih ali celo spre­
gledanih razsežnosti problematike radikalizacije in nasilnega ekstremizma.

Radicalization and Violent Extremism:
Theories, Policies and Concepts

Radicalization and violent extremism are one of the most important chal­
lenges of modern plurally diverse societies. The gap between ensuring se­
curity and stability on the one hand and respecting the fundamental rights
and freedoms of individuals on the other raises a number of tensions and
dilemmas for scholars, policy makers as well as educators in their everyday
educational environment. At the same time, the brutality of terrorist at­
tacks and their frequency open the space to ‘moral panic’ which promotes
the polarization of society and the associated phenomenon of conflicting
diversity. Moreover, radicalization and violent extremism have once again
brought to the forefront the importance of common principles and fun­
damental values as well as the questions associated with diversity and tol­
erance in general. This paper examines some of the most important prob­
lems and challenges related to radicalization and violent extremism. The
introductory part contextualizes the problems and challenges raised by
radicalization and violent extremism. The central part presents in detail
some of the most important topics radicalization and violent extremism
have brought to the forefront. The final part emphasizes the shift of em­
phasis in understanding the process of radicalization and identifies some
of the neglected aspects of radicalization and violent extremism.
