                 Victimization experiences: Comparing countries based
                 on PISA 2018 data
                 Igor Peras
Bullying is a significant issue in schools. Recent high-profile cases of peer
violence in Slovenia further highlight the need to intensify both preven-
tive measures and response protocols. To better understand bullying, with-
in the framework of the LDN task Protective Factors of Bullying: Slovenia
in the Context of Selected EU Countries, we examined how selected factors
related to victimization experiences are reflected in Slovenia and compared
them with EU countries where, according to data, adolescents report low-
er levels of victimization. This paper uses data from the PISA 2018 survey
for the following countries: Slovenia, Finland, the Netherlands, Spain, and
Portugal. Descriptive statistics, correlation analyses, and linear regressions
were performed on samples from all the mentioned countries.
The results indicate that some factors are reflected similarly in Slovenia as
in other EU countries (e.g., sense of belonging to school, disciplinary cli-
mate, emotional support from parents, competitiveness among students,
and gender). However, certain factors appeared to be significant in some
EU countries but were not significant for the Slovenian sample (e.g., stu-
dent participation in school, perspective-taking, resilience, and teacher
support). Factors that have proven significant in more successful EU coun-
tries could provide a foundation for enhancing national efforts to prevent
            and address bullying and victimization.
