DIGITAL VIOLENCE FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF MEDIA
STUDIES: THE IMPORTANCE OF MEDIA CONSUMPTION
AND EVERYDAY LIFE OF YOUNG PEOPLE
The paper presents one of the first empirical investigations into various
forms of online threats in the 15-25 age group in Slovenia. Contrary to
most of the literature the paper argues that research of negative online
experiences should focus not only on children, but also on the adolescents
and young adults and at the same time tries to offer alternative understan-
dings of the problem by addressing some of the critical issues and myths
regarding the problem. Only within this wider perspective the youth can
be de-homogenized as unified and necessarily endangered social group.
The paper thus argues for situating the empirical investigation of online
risks within the wider mediatisation debate and introduces usually absent
questions of media consumption, class and digital literacy in the debate.
Using a quantitative pilot study, the authors argue that three groups of yo-
ung people can be observed: frightened but not active, safe and active and
the threatened and exposed. As the research starts from the assumption
that unwanted experiences in the digital environment are related to wider
social structures and everyday life, sensitizing the youth about safe inter-
net use remains important, but also has to be complemented with the fin-
dings about the distribution of social power, class hierarchies, inequality
and wider changes brought by contemporary media culture.

PRISOTNOST VSEBIN O NASILJU V ŠOLI V KURIKULIH
PEDAGOŠKIH FAKULTET
Nasilje v šoli ostaja pereč problem. Vsakič, ko se pojavijo ekscesni primeri
nasilja v šoli, lahko v medijih in drugih javnostih zasledimo zaskrbljenost
in kritičnost, usmerjeno pretežno na šole, šolnice in šolnike, ki bi »mo-
rali storiti več«, da do tovrstnih pojavov ne bi prihajalo. Kritike so vča-
sih upravičene, prepogosto pa se dogaja, da je kompleksnost problemati-
ke zvedena samo na šolo in zaposlene v šolskih institucijah, ki naj ne bi
bili ustrezno usposobljeni za spoprijeme z nasiljem v šolskem polju. V pri-
čujočem prispevku avtorici preverjata, kaj je s pokritostjo vsebin nasilja v
šoli, in sicer z obravnavo otrokovih pravic in njihovo zaščito v učnih na-
črtih študijskih programov, ki formirajo prihodnje učiteljice in učitelje v
Sloveniji. Hkrati avtorici preverjata tudi pravne akte, ki zaposlenim v šol-
stvu nalagajo in omogočajo izvajati različne strategije spoprijema z nasi-
ljem v šoli.
