ings and their development through history helps us understand and judge
contemporary findings in the field of preschool education and place them
into a broader context of development around the world. In this way, we
wish to overcome and broaden the narrow views about preschool educa-
tion. This is of great importance in contemporary globalisation processes
and rapid changes, because of which people (providers, users, experts and
politicians) have to face more challenges than ever before.
