A technically and digitally inspired approach
to rationalising drinking water consumption

Today, when we just turn on the tap and water flows out in unlimited qu-
antities, we often forget that it is not an unlimited resource. We often don't
even think about the fact that our modern, consumer lifestyle is polluting
it beyond its self-cleansing capacity. The numerous photographs of chil-
dren and wives from third world countries carrying water kilometres away
in jugs every day, of arid landscapes devoid of any vegetation, do not tou-
ch us anymore, and we do not think about them, even though we should. It
all seems so far away, so unreal, and yet it is so real and so close, probably
closer than we can even imagine. Climate change is here. Ways of adapting
and mitigating the consequences are evolving of their own accord. If we are
responsible for water and water resources and use them rationally, can we
still talk about prevention? Or have we already entered the curative phase?
In any case, we will all have to work together on this matter. By adopting
a systematic approach to developing responsible habits in our relationship
('with the tap') with water, the source of life, each individual can rational-
ise his or her consumption and look into the future with a clear conscience.
Key words: environmental protection, water, water awareness, water consu-
mption, mini water meter, web application
