dr. Colin de la Higuera

Colin de la Higuera je profesor na Univerzi v Nantesu (Francija). Ukvarja se s številnimi raziskovalnimi temami, med drugim z algoritmiko, teorijo formalnih jezikov in prepoznavanjem vzorcev. Najbolj ga zanima gramatično sklepanje, področje, na katerem je avtor več kot 50 recenziranih raziskovalnih člankov in monografije „Grammatical Inference: Learning Automata and Grammars“.
Znanstveni skupnosti je služil tudi kot predsednik konferenc, strokovnjak, recenzent in urednik. Sodeloval je pri organizaciji delavnic in vodil vaje na ICML, IJCAI, ACL, … Bil je predsednik Mednarodne skupnosti za gramatično sklepanje (2002-2007), ustanovni predsednik SIF, francoskega društva za informatiko, trenutno pa je skrbnik fundacije Knowledge for All in si prizadeva za uporabo tehnologije za odprto širjenje znanja in izobraževanje.
Leta 2017 je UNESCO na podlagi projekta Class’Code, ki ga je dr. de la Higuera pomagal zagnati v Franciji, ustanovil katedro za tehnologije za usposabljanje učiteljev z odprtimi izobraževalnimi viri na Univerzi v Nantesu, ki jo zdaj vodi. Leta 2019 je univerza v Nantesu v podporo njegovemu delu ustanovila akademsko katedro za odprto izobraževanje in umetno inteligenco. Od leta 2020 je glavni zagovornik načela enakosti pri inštitutu IRCAI. Leta 2021 je UNESCO obnovil katedro za „odprte izobraževalne vire in umetno inteligenco“. Leta 2023 je Unesco ustanovil mrežo „Unitwin Network in Open Education“ s 16 partnerji iz 14 držav. Colin de la Higuera je koordinator te mreže.


Colin de la Higuera is Professor at Nantes University (France). He has been involved in a number of research themes, including algorithmics, formal language theory, pattern recognition. His chief interest lies in grammatical inference, a field in which he has been the author of more than 50 reviewed research papers and a monograph, “Grammatical Inference: Learning Automata and Grammars”.
He has also served the community as chairman of conferences, expert, reviewer, editor. He has co-organized workshops and given tutorials at ICML, IJCAI, ACL, … He has been chairman of the International Community in Grammatical Inference (2002-2007), the founding president of the SIF, the French Informatics Society and is currently a trustee of the Knowledge for All foundation and is working towards the usage of technology for an open dissemination of knowledge and education.
In 2017, based on the project Class’Code he contributed to launch in France, UNESCO has created a Chair in Technologies for the Training of Teachers by Open Educational Resources at University of Nantes, which he is now holding. In 2019 an Academic Chair on Open Education and Artificial Intelligence was created by Nantes University to support his work. Since 2020 he is Chief Equality Advocate at IRCAI. In 2021 UNESCO renewed the Chair in “Open Educational Resources and Artificial Intelligence”. In 2023, Unesco created a Unitwin Network in Open Education, with 16 partners from 14 countries. Colin de la Higuera is the coordinator of this network.
